 Join
River Tavern and Feast Market for Dinners at the Farm, a series of benefit
dinners celebrating Connecticut's local farms, food and community. Each dinner
is a unique experience
held in the very fields from which the evening’s menu is sourced.
Chef
and owner Jonathan Rapp of River Tavern restaurant and chef and owner
Drew McLachlan of Feast Market created Dinners at the
Farm as a way to generate
awareness of the importance and vitality of our local farming community
and the delicious, wholesome and abundant food it provides us.
The menus are spontaneous and bountiful, highlighting the richness
of our local traditions of farming and fishing and the often forgotten
value of eating fresh, vibrant food that was just harvested by a dedicated
farmer you know and trust. Recreating a sense of connection to farming,
cooking and eating is what Dinners at the Farm is all about.
Dinners at the Farm also strengthens our community
by helping to raise funds for local agricultural and humanitarian
non-profit organizations.
Our first season held last year was an enormous success with sold-out
dinners and waiting lists. But our true measure of success was the
donation made to our ten beneficiaries of close to $17,000. Plus, over
$30,000 was paid directly to farmers for their products. Among some
of last year’s beneficiaries included Connecticut Farmland Trust,
Slow Food Connecticut and Working Lands Alliance. We are again donating
a percentage of the proceeds of each dinner to that evening’s
non-profit partner.
The beneficiaries this year include Connecticut Farmland Trust, CitySeed,
one of three nationally acclaimed urban farmers markets accepting food
stamps from lower income individuals and families; Shore Line Soup
Kitchen and Pantry and Working Lands Alliance, an advocacy group dedicated
to the preservation of farm land in Connecticut. Working together we
have created an event that helps support our farms, farmers and community.
We hope you will join us.
